Majorite

Mg3(Fe2⁺,Si,Al)2(SiO4)3
Cubic crown IMA approved

Majorite is a cubic-system mineral with the chemical formula Mg3(Fe²⁺,Si,Al)2(SiO4)3. It is a member of the pyroxene group and is classified as a tectosilicate in the Strunz system (9.AD.25) and in the Dana system as 51.4.3a.5. This mineral is notable for its high magnesium content and variable substitution of iron, silicon, and aluminum. It typically exhibits a vitreous luster and is usually green to brown in color. With a hardness of approximately 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale and a relatively high density, majorite is a rare mineral found in high-pressure geological environments.

Etymology

Majorite is named after Alan Major, a mineralogist who contributed to the study of high-pressure minerals. The mineral was officially approved by the International Mineralogical Association (IMA).

Geological genesis

As a high-pressure mineral, majorite is typically formed in ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic conditions, such as those found in subducted oceanic crust. It is associated with the transformation of mantle-derived materials under extreme pressure and temperature.

Spiritual meaning and crystal therapy

Spiritual meaning

Majorite is a rare and powerful crystal, symbolizing transformation and deep inner strength. It is traditionally associated with spiritual awakening and the pursuit of higher knowledge.

Esoteric properties

Majorite is said to enhance intuition and stimulate spiritual growth. It is believed to help with emotional balance and is associated with the ability to navigate complex energies with clarity and grace.

Associated chakra

Majorite is traditionally associated with the crown chakra due to its clear and vibrant energy, which is believed to support higher consciousness and spiritual connection.

Crystal therapy use

In crystal therapy, majorite is often used in meditation to enhance spiritual insight. It can be placed on the crown chakra or worn as jewelry to align with its energies and promote inner clarity.
