Childrenite

Fe2⁺AlPO4(OH)2·H2O
Orthorhombic heart IMA grandfathered

Childrenite is a rare phosphate mineral with the chemical formula iron(II) aluminum phosphate hydroxide hydrate. It crystallizes in the orthorhombic system and is classified as a phosphatate mineral in the Strunz system (8.DD.20) and as a member of the childrenite group in the Dana classification (42.7.1.1). The mineral typically exhibits a white streak and a dull to vitreous luster. It is generally dark green to black in color and has a relatively low hardness and moderate density. Childrenite is of interest in mineralogical collections due to its unique composition and association with specific geological environments.
