Charlesite

Ca6Al2(SO4)2B(OH)4(OH,O)12·26H2O
Trigonal heart IMA approved

Charlesite is a rare hydrated calcium aluminum sulfate hydroxide borate mineral with the chemical formula Ca6Al2(SO4)2B(OH)4(OH,O)12·26H2O. It crystallizes in the trigonal crystal system and is classified as a nesosilicate in the Strunz system (7.DG.15) and as a member of the Dana classification (32.4.4.1). The mineral exhibits a white streak and typically has a pearly to vitreous luster. It is relatively soft and has a low density due to its high water content. Charlesite is notable for its complex composition and is of interest to mineralogists for its unique structure and chemical properties.
