Caryopilite

Mn23Si2O5(OH)4
root IMA approved

Caryopilite is a hydrous manganese silicate mineral with the chemical formula Mn^2⁺3Si2O5(OH)4. It belongs to the phyllosilicate class, specifically the Strunz classification 9.ED.15. The mineral crystallizes in the monoclinic system and is typically found in a fibrous or platy habit. Caryopilite exhibits a pearly to vitreous luster, a hardness of approximately 2 to 2.5 on the Mohs scale, and a density of around 3.0 to 3.2 g/cm³. It commonly appears in light green to brownish hues. As a phyllosilicate, it is closely related to other sheet silicates and is often associated with low-temperature hydrothermal environments.

Etymology

The name caryopilite is derived from the Greek word 'karyon,' meaning walnut, in reference to the walnut-like appearance of the mineral's aggregates.

Geological genesis

Caryopilite is typically associated with low-temperature hydrothermal processes and is commonly found in metamorphic or hydrothermal alteration zones, particularly in manganese-rich environments.

Spiritual meaning and crystal therapy
