Annabergite

Ni3(AsO4)2·8H2O
Monoclinic heart IMA grandfathered

Annabergite is a hydrated nickel arsenate mineral with the chemical formula Ni3(AsO4)2·8H2O. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system and is classified as a phosphate mineral in the Strunz system (8.CE.40) and as a member of the arsenate group in the Dana classification (40.3.6.4). The mineral typically exhibits a bright green color, a vitreous to silky luster, and a hardness of approximately 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale. It has a relatively low density and is commonly found as small, prismatic or tabular crystals. Annabergite is often associated with secondary nickel mineralization in oxidized zones of nickel sulfide deposits.

Etymology

Annabergite is named after Annaberg-Buchholz, a town in Germany where the mineral was first described.

Geological genesis

Annabergite typically forms as a secondary mineral in the oxidation zones of nickel sulfide deposits, where it results from the weathering and alteration of primary nickel minerals under surface conditions.

Occurrence

Annabergite is found in oxidized nickel sulfide deposits, particularly in areas with a history of nickel mining. Its type locality is Annaberg-Buchholz, Germany.

Spiritual meaning and crystal therapy

Spiritual meaning

Annabergite is traditionally associated with emotional healing and spiritual growth. It is believed to help one connect with their inner truth and foster a deeper understanding of self and life's purpose.

Esoteric properties

Annabergite is said to promote emotional balance, encourage self-reflection, and support the release of old patterns. It is associated with clarity, patience, and the gentle unfolding of wisdom over time.

Associated chakra
